The Pest | | Slugs damage a wide range of container grown and outdoor crops. They are generalist feeders with a preference for young shoots and leaves. Biological Controls
| | » NEMASLUG® Phasmarhabditis hermaphrodita in units of 12 million, 30 million or 250 million Nemaslug® is a registered trade mark of Becker Underwood. | | | | |
| | Nemaslug® Nemaslug® contains the UK strain of the mollusc parasitic nematode Phasmarhabditis hermaphrodita. Applied to the compost as a drench, the nematodes seek out and attack slugs and snails. They invade the slug via the dorsal pore, which is a breathing hole at the back of the mantle. The mantle swells as the nematodes reproduce and the slug eventually dies underground in 7-10 days. The nematodes continue to reproduce as the body is broken down and further generations of infective nematodes move off into the solid to locate further victims. Nemaslug® works best at temperatures between 5 and 20°C. To avoid desiccation, apply Neamslug in the evening. The area to be treated should be moist. If necessary water before application. Avoid application to heavy clay, waterlogged or frozen soil. Nemaslug® is safe to consumers, wildlife and the environment and is compatible with other biological control agents. For crops attacked during or soon after germination, apply Nemaslug® four days prior to emergence / planting. Delay applications on crops that are susceptible later in the season. For potatoes apply Nemaslug® 6-7 weeks before harvest when tubers are sensitive to attack.
