Red spider mite or two spotted mite (Tetranychus urticae). PHYTOSURE (pt) contains conditioned Phytoseiulus persimilis for control of red spider mite on tomatoes. Instructions
» | Before use, lay tube/bottle in horizontal position at room temperature for 5 minutes to allow predators to disperse along the tube. | » | Rotate tube/bottle whilst gently tilting through approximately 60° to mix the predators evenly through the vermiculite. | » | Carry tube/bottle to treatment area in horizontal position. | » | With 250ml bottles remove cap and sprinkle vermiculite onto leaves. | » | With 30ml tubes, more accurate dosing is possible. Remove resealable bung. Invert the tube to dispense a shot of vermiculite and an average of at least 10 predators. For crops such as tomatoes and smaller leafed plants, hold a leaf with one hand and dispense onto the leaf with the tube in the other. The lower volume of vermiculite allows the predators to grip onto the leaf within a few seconds. Each tube treats approximately 200 sites with an average of at least 10 predators. | » | Replace the resealable bung (tubes) or replace lid on bottles if there is a delay between applications to prevent mites escaping. | » | Gently rotate tube/ bottle between applications to ensure predators remain mixed evenly in the vermiculite. | » | Once tube/bottle has been emptied, remove dispensing lid (tube) or cap (bottle) and leave in the crop to ensure all predators have escaped. |
Introduction Rates
Rate of introduction will depend on level of infestation and the type crop. As a guide introduce between 5 per m2 for lower infestations and 20 per m2 for heavier infestations. When treating outbreaks, always treat immediately surrounding leaves and plants as well. PHYTOSURE (pt) should be applied to leaves with spider mites present, as mobility on tomato stems is limited. PHYTOSURE performs best when relative humidities are above 70% and temperatures are above 20°C.
At 25°C the predators multiply twice as fast as the red spider mite. Storage

Adult Phytoseiulus persimilis are orange, pear shaped, fast moving mites. The eggs are oval, tinged with orange and twice the size of spider mite eggs. Adults feed on all stages of spider mites including eggs.
