Technical Information Leptomastix epona is a dark brown to black parasitic wasp, about 3mm long, which attacks glasshouse mealybug. Leptomastix dactylopii is a small yellow parasitic wasp about 3mm long, which attacks citrus mealybug. Both parasites lay eggs into the third larval stage of the mealy bug and after about two weeks parasitised mealy bugs become swollen, brown and mummified. A small hole is cut at one end of the host from which the parasite emerges. The life cycle takes about four to five weeks at 20oC. Leptomastidea abnormis is a 1.5 mm parasitic wasp, lightish in colour with black wing bands. It attacks 2nd instar citrus mealybug and works under slightly cooler conditions than other mealybug parasitoids currently available. It takes 20 and 44 days to emerge at 30°C and 20°C. Parasitised mummies become brown and mummified. Once the parasite has matured it cuts a small flap in the mealybug to emerge. Anagyrus pseudococci is a small parasitic wasp with grey brown females, which are about 2.5mm long, with white antennae. This species attacks larger nearly fully grown mealybugs. Citrus mealybug is its preferred host but it develops in a variety of species. Faster to develop than othe mealybug parasites, it takes 11 and 31 days to emerge at 30°C and 20°C. Once mature the adult parasite emerges from a jagged hole near the end of the mealybug.
