Leptomastix dactylopii is a small yellow parasitic wasp about 3mm long. The parasite lays an egg into the third larval stage of the mealy bug and after about two weeks parasitised mealy bugs become swollen, brown and mummified. A small hole is cut at one end of the host from which the parasite emerges. The life cycle takes about four weeks at 20°C.
