Felsure (a): Directions for use

Contains
Feltiella acarisuga as cocoons on leaf. Unit: 250 cocoons in 1 litre tub.

Target Pest
Red spider mite or two spotted mite (Tetranychus urticae)

Instructions

 »

On receipt only open tub once positioned in intended release site.

»

Position tub in the shade at the base of a plant in a spider infested area.

 »

To release emerging adult midges, break paper disc in the centre of the tub lid.

Adult female midges emerge from the cocoons, mate inside the tub then fly off to lay their eggs amongst spider mite infestations.

Introduction Rates
Rate of introduction will depend greatly on type of crop and level of spider. As a guide introduce 1 tub (250 cocoons) per hot spot of spider for 4 weeks or for more widespread outbreaks, 10 tubs (2500 cocoons) per hectare for 4 introductions.

Conditions
FELSURE (a) establishes and performs best when relative humidities are above 70%. In order to establish it is important there is a sufficient food source at the time of introduction. FELSURE will build up on localised hotspots of spider and then spread to lower infestations.

Storage
» Preferably use on the day of receipt or within 2 days if stored at 6-8°C.

Technical Information
Feltiella acarisuga (formally Therodiplosis) is a naturally occurring midge. The larval stages prey on all stages of spider mites. The adult is capable of locating patches of spider mite throughout a crop from a single release site. The larvae are a creamy brown yellow colour growing to 1.9mm. Pupae are formed inside a white cocoon which is spun onto a leaf often on the lower surface near to a vein.
